Through a dialogue between photographs and textual fragments, this project will examine Failaka Island as a stage for suspended narratives. It is a visual index that reconstructs imagined lives and histories through found objects and material remnants, forming fictional testimonies. This residency will result in a handmade photobook that incorporates the island’s ecology: the images are taken on film that is developed using plant-based chemistry made from local algae, and the paper is crafted from recycled materials and native plant fibres.
